Hello π
My name is Laura. I live with my husband and baby boy in a small country town on the south coast of Australia. I am currently 26 years old.
When i first started this blog, it was initially to review books from a neutral perspective. I believe that everyone interprets a book differently and a lot of people will easily dismiss a book because it has been given bad press even though personally for them, they might have loved it. That is what i wanted to avoid.
However i’m not sure how much my blog can grow with just that purpose. It’s not that i don’t want to review books anymore. I just found it so limiting. I’ve found through writing my posts that there is so much more connected to reading and book reviewing that simply just that. And i wanted to write about those things!
So this is my attempt to break out a little bit. I still want to review books that i’ve read because i find it helpful to read other people’s reviews on books i may be interested in. However i started thinking about my passion for reading. What made me start this blog in the first place?
So that is the focus i have decided to take. I know i could give a short answer to the question, “Well, i just love reading!”. I don’t think that justifies it though. There’s much more to it than that. So who knows where it will take me. I could end up blogging about my other passion (besides God and my husband), which is food. Far out i love food. Thankfully from looking at me you wouldn’t think that off the top of your head. And doesn’t reading and eating go so well together? We’ll see (and wouldn’t you know my husband and i did start a blog all about food. Check it out – www.thechefandthewaitress.wordpress.com).
So please stick around! I’d love to hear from you.
Also i just wanted to say thank you to Lindsey (Happy or Hungry) because reading her ‘About‘ made me start to reevaluate my blog. Thanks Lindsey!
Note: I just want to admit i was a little dramatic in my wording on my original ‘About Me’ page (see below if you want to know). I feel now that there were too many flourishes and it’s not really what i wanted my blog to be about. I don’t want it to be boring but i think i was trying too hard. This is my first blog and i really wanted to make a good impression. I’m a tad embarrassed about it now. Oh well. Good for a laugh!

Greetings and salutations! My name is Laura and i am an avid, passionate, obsessed reader. I grew up in Sydney, Australia and I currently live with my husband in a small country town on the south coast of Australia.
For as long as i can remember i have been passionate about reading. When i was small my favourite author was Enid Blyton. I yearned to be a part of The Famous Five, wished i could climb The Magic Faraway Tree, and longed to be on one of the adventures from the Adventure series with Philip, Dinah, Lucy-Ann and Jack.
As an older child, one of my best friends introduced me to The Baby-Sitter’s Club. I was hooked from the very first book. I started writing down ideas on how i could start my own Baby-Sitter’s Club. Kristy, Claudia, Stacey, Mary-Anne, Dawn, Mallory and Jessie became my best friends. My favourites were the Super Specials because i could read a chapter from each of their points of view, delving into a story from many different perspectives.
As a young teenager my love for books continued to grow. I was recommended The Deltora Quest series. I couldn’t get enough, thrilled when two more series were written – Deltora Shadowlands and Dragons of Deltora.
As an older teenager i discovered Agatha Christie. I loved the mystery, trying to figure out who the culprit was. I also discovered Terry Brooks. My favourite series of his being The Heritage of Shannara. My eyes were continually being opened to more and more authors.
At the moment i seem to be drawn to Irish/Australian writers. Marian Keyes and Monica McInerney are my two favourites.
My love of all the authors and books through each stage of my life so far are still strong, i regularly reread a book that i love. However i feel like the world of books is still to be conquered, so many authors yet to discover, so many stories yet to unfold, characters to meet. I have read books from Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea to Anne of Green Gables, from Dune to Pride and Prejudice, from Memoirs Of A Geisha to The Hobbit and everything in between. I love popular books, and unpopular books; old and new; fantasy, romance, adventure, crime, mystery, sci-fi, family saga, children’s, young adult’s and more. I want to be like the starship Enterprise, to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.
I want this blog to be a place where you can discover books that you have never heard of, or books that you might not have thought of reading but decide to now. I want to portray the books i review from a neutral perspective because i believe that everyone interprets a book differently. A lot of people will easily dismiss a book because it has been given a bad rap even though for them personally it might have been fantastic.
I am looking forward to this journey of discovery. Wilt thou dost join me?
