Angel, sold into prostitution as a child, survives by keeping her hatred for men alive. Then she meets Michael Hosea who loves her unconditionally. Day by day, he defies Angel’s every bitter expectation until, despite her resistance, her heart begins to thaw. But with her unexpected softening come overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. So Angel runs…
Woah. A friend lent me this book and I started reading it in a lull at work one afternoon and I finished it the next afternoon while at work. I could not put it down.
The story is based on the book of Hosea in the Bible of how how God told Hosea to marry a prostitute and love her unconditionally as God loves us. In this case God tells Michael Hosea to marry Angel, a young prostitute working in California during the gold rush and to love her and show her what unconditional love is.
The story was really well written and drew you in straight away. As I said I could not put it down and most of the entire book I was holding my breath and turning the pages almost faster than I could read them.
The characters were excellently written and really jumped out of the pages. They were alive with emotion, raw and real and you experienced every joy, every heartache right there alongside them.
The book has Christian themes however was not preachy, and if you want to understand what God’s love looks like, then you need to read this book.
The story is a love story however it is unlike most as not only does it stand the test of time and trials, the love is unconditional. No matter how many times Angel stumbles, Michael forgives her and loves her through it.
This book is beautifully written and will make your heart ache. If you only read one book this year, let this be it. Even if you don’t believe in God, read this book – it gives us an example of what real love looks like.
I recommend this book highly, not just for women but for men also. Yes, it is a love story but it is not a romance. It will change your life.
